Easy Tiramisu Recipe

This delicious and unbelievably easy Tiramisu recipe is made with coffee soaked lady fingers, sweet and creamy mascarpone (no raw eggs!), and cocoa powder dusted on top. It requires no baking and can be made in advance!

Who doesn’t love an easy no-bake dessert? That’s one of the best things about this tiramisu recipe. If you are looking quick no-bake dessert I also love No Bake Peanut Butter Pretzel Bars and Butterscotch Cereal Bars.

This recipe has been a long time coming, and I’m embarrassed to admit how much tiramisu has been made in the trial of this recipe (I literally bought out every package of Savoiardi lady fingers at two different stores!) but I wanted to nail down the right approach.

By “right approach”, I mean how traditional of a tiramisu recipe I wanted to share. (In case you’re not familiar with it, Tiramisu is a popular Italian dessert made with lady fingers (or spongecake), coffee, liqueur, and mascarpone cheese topped with chocolate powder). Should I make the lady fingers from scratch? Does it matter? And more importantly, do I make it with raw eggs?

Prep: 45min

Total: 45min

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups espresso coffee* (cooled to room temperature)
  • 4 Tablespoons dark rum, Marsala, or brandy (optional)
  • 5 large eggs** (separated)
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2 cups (500g) full-fat mascarpone (cold)
  • 48 Ladyfingers (Savoiardi biscuits)***
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder ((I use Dutch processed))

Instruction:

  1. Make the coffee first so it has time to cool. Pour the coffee into a wide, medium-sized bowl and mix with rum, if using. Set aside.
  2. In a stand mixer, or using a hand-held mixer, beat the egg yolks and sugar on medium-high speed until thick and creamy, 4 to 5 minutes.
  3. Add the mascarpone in two or three increments, and beat until just combined and smooth (don’t overhea – it is fine if some lumps will remain). Transfer mixture to a bowl, set aside.
  4. In a clean bowl, use clean whisks to beat the egg whites starting on low and increasing speed once foamy. Beat until stiff peaks form, about 2 to 3 minutes.
  5. Add 1/2 of the egg whites to the mascarpone mixture and gently fold through to incorporate. Repeat with remaining egg whites.
  6. Quickly dip one ladyfinger at a time in the coffee and place on the bottom of a 9×13-inch dish (11×9 will also work). See photos in post for guidance on how to arrange the ladyfingers.
  7. Cover the layer of ladyfingers with half of the mascarpone cream, spreading evenly. Top with another layer of coffee-dipped ladyfingers, then spread with remaining mascarpone cream.
  8. Cover tightly, refrigerate for at least 6 hours, but preferably overnight. When ready to serve, dust with cocoa powder and serve chilled.
