This recipe for seasoned oyster crackers is a super simple snack that you won’t be able to stop eating! A friend of mine shared it with me and it’s so good.

I was talking with a friend of mine about Thanksgiving and what some of her family’s favorite recipes are. She giggled a little and told me about this cracker recipe. She laughed because the recipe is SO simple!

In her family, they make these crackers every year for when guests come over in the afternoon, but she ends up snacking on them all day while getting Thanksgiving dinner prepped. After making them, I’m going to add them to our holiday menus as well, because OMG THEY’RE SO GOOD!

How To Make Oyster Crackers

FAQ

How do they make oyster crackers?

There are no oysters in oyster crackers — they are wheat flour-based crackers that have a flavor similar to saltine crackers but with less salt. Oyster crackers are docked (holes are made in the dough) and slow baked at low temperatures until crisp, and their flavors can range from bland to a little bit buttery.

Why did they stop making oyster crackers?

The taste changed and the texture was softer, like a regular cracker. It didn’t break into hard crumbs when cracked over soup. Then, in the fall, the company that produced the crackers stopped making them, forcing businesses like Mink’s to scramble for a replacement.

Are saltine crackers and oyster crackers the same thing?

They are similar in ingredients and flavor to saltine crackers. Plain oyster crackers are at times seasoned with spices. Although they usually have a taste similar to saltine crackers, they are far less salty.

What are oyster crackers made out of?

The crackers are often served with oyster stew and clam chowder and contain similar ingredients to saltine crackers.
