FAQ

Why are mug cakes chewy?

Why is my mug cake rubbery (or chewy or hard)? Your mug cake can be rubbery because you overcooked it or added too much baking powder. Less is more with mug cake, so use a little baking powder. It’ll still rise well and be super soft and moist.

Are mug cakes supposed to be gooey?

The cakes should be cooked, but very moist, and a bit gooey in the middle. If you like your cake extra soft and gooey, cook for a bit less time. Allow cakes to cool for about 10 minutes prior to eating.

How to make a cake in a cup?

Instructions
  1. Add flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt to a mug and stir together.
  2. Stir in milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth, being sure to scrape the bottom of the mug. Stir in sprinkles.
  3. Cook in microwave for 70-90 seconds* (until cake is just set, but still barely shiny on top).

Why do my mug cakes always fail?

If your mug cake comes out soggy, it likely means that you added too much liquid to the cake batter. To prevent this, ensure that you are measuring the ingredients for the cake batter carefully, especially when it comes to the wet ingredients such as milk, oil, and eggs.
